A YEAR TO REMEMBER?

When history books of the 90's are written, 1997 may be one of the slimmer chapters. It was a year without major international crises, without cultural upheaval and without serious economic difficulties (except for Asia's recent problems). The biggest news event of the year was the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. 1997 highlights included new knowledge about Mars, new browsers from Microsoft and Netscape, new drugs to fight AIDS, and new music from Bob Dylan. As well as growing fears and enthusiasm about the new millennium, now only two short years away (or three, depending on who you ask).
